UW-Milwaukee Sweeps Volleyball, 30-21, 30-26, 30-21

Nov. 8, 2003

Milwaukee, Wis. - UW-Milwaukee used a strong serving and blocking attack to breeze past the University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball team with a 30-21, 30-26, 30-21 Horizon League sweep over the Flames at the Klotsche Center on Saturday afternoon.

Karen Fruit led the Panthers with 14 kills, while freshman Cheryl Hegemann added 12 kills and eight blocks.

UIC struggled at the net as UW-Milwaukee finished with 13 blocks, limiting the Flames to a hitting percentage of .063 (35 kills, 28 errors, 111 attacks).

"It was not a pretty match," UIC Head Coach Don August said. "We were not ready to beat (UW-Milwaukee) and they were a team that could have been beaten."

With the victory, UWM improves to 22-4 overall and 11-1 in Horizon League action, while the Flames fall to 11-19 on the campaign and 2-11 in league play.

Junior middle hitter Megan Hoffman led the Flames with nine kills, while teammate Kristi Herrington chipped in seven kills.

UIC will be back in action on Friday, November 14th as they will travel across town to take on Horizon League rival, Loyola, at 7:00 p.m. in Alumni Gym.
