Men's Swimming and Diving Cruises Past Valparaiso, 152-71

Chicago, Ill. - Senior Mike Magee qualified for the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships as the Darien, Ill., native tallied a first-place finish of 320.75 on the one-meter board to help lead the University of Illinois at Chicago men's swimming and diving team to the 152-71 victory over Valparaiso at the UIC Natatorium on Friday evening.

Magee later went on to capture the 3-meter event with a score of 281.90.

"It's nice to get a win leading into the Horizon League championships which are three weeks away," UIC head coach Paul Moniak said. "We had some unexpected performances tonight that really came through for us."

The Flames also received a pair of victories from newcomers Brian Kroes and LeRoy Stevens. Kroes won both the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.89) and 1,000-yard freestyle (10:28.20). Stevens dominated the sprint events with victories in the 50-yard freestyle (21.95) and 100-yard freestyle (47.32).

Other individual victories for the Flames included: Adan Jimenez (200-yard freestyle, 1:45.09), Enric Claret (1:58.32), Jose Lopez-Lago (100-yard butterfly, 52.74), Bill Hare (100-yard backstroke, 54.54) and Chris Kaczor (1:01.07).

The men also dominated the relay events, sweeping both the 200-yard medley (1:37.85) and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:27.40).
