Chicago, Ill. -The UIC softball team added more west coast talent to the program on Tuesday, as they announced the signing of Tonya Maosi to a National Letter of Intent.
Maosi, a switch-hitting utility player out of Huntington Beach, Calif., is currently a senior at Marina High School where she was the Vikings top offensive player in 2002 while also earning All-Sunset League honors last season.
"Tonya will be an excellent addition to our team," UIC Co-Head Coach Sarah O'Malley-Fisher said of her team's newest recruit. "She will be able to come in and contribute to our program right away."
Maosi is also a standout on the CASE Batbusters club team out of Orange County, Calif. Last season, she helped the Batbusters to a second-place finish at the ASA "A" National Championships.
Maosi joins fellow California native Chelsey Barclay from San Jose, and Kathleen Mixan, a local product from Mother McAuley High School in Chicago, as part of the Flames' 2004 recruiting class.
