Women's Track and Field Places Seventh At Chicagoland Championships

Naperville, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago junior throwing specialist Sara O'Mara broke the school-record in the hammer throw for the second time in as many weeks to help the Flames track and field team to a seventh-place finish at the Chicagoland Championships, hosted by North Central College on Saturday afternoon.

O'Mara finished first with a heave of 153'6", followed by teammate Danielle Simpson's second-place toss of 146'10".

DePaul captured the overall title with 169 points, followed by Carthage (126), Lewis (124), North Central (77), Wheaton (60.5), Chicago (55.5), UIC (43.5), Chicago State (43), Olivet Nazarene (38), College of DuPage (23.5), North Park (22), Benedictine (16), Elmhurst (11), St. Francis (7) and Harper College (3).

Freshman Laura Otepka placed fourth overall in the high jump with a season-best leap of 5'1 ?", while teammate Tina Thompson finished fifth in the triple jump (33'6").

UIC will be back in action this weekend as they will travel to both the Kansas Relays and the Elmhurst Invitational.
