Chicago, Ill. - Despite closing an 18-point deficit in the second half, Central Michigan edged the UIC women's basketball team at the Pavilion Tuesday night, 67-62. Sophomore center Nicole Rinaldi posted a career-high 13 points and added seven rebounds versus the Chippewas.
Senior Chrissy Dizon led the Flames with 14 points, nine rebounds and shot 90 percent from the line.
Central Michigan senior forward Chasidy Myers paced the Chippewas with 16 points and junior Ann Skufca picked up a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The Chippewas lead early, hitting four of ten treys in the first fifteen minutes of play. Central Michigan led by 18 points with 4:23 on the clock, but a few jumpers by Jacquay Holmes cut the lead to 38-23 going into halftime.
The Flames showed strong defense in the second half, holding CMU to 35 percent from the field. UIC also charged on the offense, chipping away at Central Michigan's lead late in the half.
UIC hit a 12-0 run to only trail by three points with 4:02 remaining in regulation, but the Chippewas would edge the Flames 67-62.
UIC's bench chipped in 15 points on the night and the Flames squad scored 18 points off turnovers versus CMU's eight.
UIC moves to 1-2 overall and is set to host Northwestern at 3 pm this Saturday, November 26th at the Pavilion.
