Green Bay, Wis.- Two sprint-free wins from junior Blake Booher and a 50 free win from Colleen Dougherty were not enough for the UIC swimming and diving teams on Saturday, as UW-Green Bay downed the Flames in a Horizon League dual meet at Dorschel Natatorium.
On the men's side, the Phoenix overcame the UIC men's team by a 138-105 count, while UW-Green Bay's women downed the UIC women's squad 149-80.
In the second of back-to-back meets, the Flames fell behind early with 400 medley losses and could not overcome the deficit, despite some strong individual showings.
Dougherty won the women's 50 free in 25.01, later placing second in a close 100 free race with a time of 54.51.
Booher captured his second 50 free win of the weekend, winning the race in 21.13. He went on to take the 100 free in 47.65.
Second-year swimmer Andrea Giczewski placed second in the 200 backstroke with a 2:12.57. Teammate Jessica Darud was right behind her with a 2:12.94.
Senior Kris Simos won the 100 fly with a time of 1:58.40, followed by teammate Jason Dews and his time of 1:58.65.
The men's team turned in a victorious 400 free relay behind the swimming of Sean Dawson, Bill Hare, Athanasios Lamprou and Blake Booher. The quartet combined for a 3:10.27.
Junior Mike Conroy turned in two second-place showings, swimming a 2:00.70 in the men's 200 IM and turning in a 1:59.68 in the 200 backstroke.
Senior Caitlin Carey placed second on the three-meter board with a 232.58. Junior Ryan Fitzer led the men in the one-meter event, diving to a score of 230.70.
UIC returns to action this weekend for the annual Bill Ritter Invitational hosted by UW-Milwaukee beginning on Friday.
