Chicago, Ill. - Junior Katarina Nedeljkovic guided the UIC volleyball team (13-11, 6-1) to a three-game victory over crosstown rival Loyola (11-11, 4-3) after notching 17 kills and recording a season-high .333 attack percentage in the RED OUT match on Friday night at the Flames Athletic Center.
Senior Katie Kozak led the Flames on defense with 11 digs, while posting a .333 attack percentage. Julie Popp added ten digs and Ambria Springer notched 13 kills against the Ramblers.
Sparking a 6-1 run, the Flames came out strong offensively in game one. Recording a .257 attack percentage, UIC held Loyola to a .071 clip and forced the Ramblers to commit ten errors. LU inched its way back into the game, getting within one point (11-10), but UIC turned it up a notch on the both sides of the net for the 30-22 win.
Nedeljkovic helped UIC take a 2-0 advantage with eight kills and a .438 attack percentage in game two. Trailing 12-9, the Flames posted a 5-2 run to knot it at 14-14. Gaining the momentum, UIC captured game two, 30-24
The Flames continued to shut Loyola down offensively in game three. Recording 20 kills and a .318 hitting percentage, UIC topped the Ramblers for the second time this season with a 30-21 win in the final game of the sweep.
UIC travels to Indiana and Ohio next week to challenge Butler on Friday, Oct. 20 and Wright State on Saturday, Oct. 21.
