Indianapolis, Ind. - A hard fought game three gave the UIC Volleyball team (14-12, 7-2) the momentum to top Butler, 3-1 (30-24, 27-30, 34-32, 30-22), on the road Saturday afternoon. Recording a double-double with 15 kills and 19 digs, junior Amanda Kenny paced the Flames on both sides of the net.
Senior Ambria Springer owned a team-high 18 kills and six blocks, while setter Katie Kozak led UIC with a .467 attack percentage. Julie Popp guided the squad on defense, recording 19 digs against the Bulldogs. Junior Katarina Nedeljkovic and freshman Katerina Hanackova each picked up a double-double in the win.
UIC grabbed a 16-9 advantage early in game one after recording .292 attack percentage. Butler closed the gap to trail by five points in the third frame of game one, 25-20. Notching five kills for the Flames, senior Ambria Springer helped guide UIC on offense, while Amanda Kenny tabbed four blocks for the 30-24 victory.
Butler challenged the Flames in game two, taking a 4-1 lead. UIC then sparked a 4-1 run to knot it at 5-5. The two teams exchanged points before UIC earned three straight (13-11) to take a two-point advantage. The Bulldogs tied UIC mid-game, 16-16, eventually taking an 18-17 lead. Holding the Flames to a .138 attack percentage, BU evened the score at 1-1 with a 30-27 win.
The Flames posted a three-point advantage early in game three, 13-9. The Bulldogs recorded four consecutive points, knotting game three at 13-13, but UIC answered with seven straight to regain the lead. Tied up at 32-32, the Flames notched two kills to hand BU at 34-32 decision.
UIC jumped out early against Butler in game four, 19-11. Leading 26-22, UIC sealed the match victory on two Bulldogs errors (30-22).
UIC returns home to host Cleveland State on Oct. 27 and Youngstown State in a Senior Day celebration on Oct. 28.
