Chicago, Ill. - Recording a .370 attack percentage for the Flames, senior Ambria Springer helped the Flames (15-13, 8-3) to a 3-0 sweep over Youngstown State (9-19, 0-11) on Saturday afternoon in UIC's final regular season home match of the season. Senior Maura McCarthy recorded her first double-double in 2006 with a season-high ten kills and 15 digs.
Senior Ambria Springer added two blocks and 13 kills alongside her team-high .370 attack percentage. Junior Katarina Nedeljkovic led the Flames with 15 kills and six service aces, while senior Julie Popp paced the team on the defense, recording 20 digs in the win.
UIC sparked a 5-0 run to start game one, but YSU answered with six straight points. Holding the Penguins to a .062 attack percentage, the Flames took the lead and extended the gap to 11 points late in the game (25-14). Recording a team-high six kills, Nedeljkovic helped UIC take a 1-0 advantage with a 30-18 win.
The Flames trailed Youngstown State for most of game two until late in the third frame, when UIC posted a 7-0 run for the 30-27 comeback victory. UIC notched a .255 attack percentage, while holding YSU to a .159 clip.
Tied 8-8, the Penguins earned two straight points for the early lead in game three before UIC turned on the heat. The Flames posted an 11-6 run for a six-point lead (21-16). Youngstown State got within one point late in the game, but the Flames fired back offensivley with three kills from Springer to seal the sweep (30-23).
UIC takes its final three matches on the road to conclude regular season action. The Flames tangle with UW-Milwaukee (Nov. 3) and UW-Green Bay (Nov. 4) before heading across town for a showdown against Loyola on Nov. 9.
