Chicago, Ill. - In their first of three consecutive road games, the Flames fell to Northwestern on Wednesday night in Evanston, 72-57. Freshman Cassie Johnson paced UIC on offense with a season-high 16 points. Johnson shot 60 percent from the field (6-for-10) and hit 4-of-4 at the free throw line.
Senior LaShonda Grant notched ten points, two three pointers and a team-high six rebounds. Freshman Jessie Miller added nine points on the night, pulling down four boards.
Northwestern's A.J. Glasauer led the squad with 16 points and Melissa Miller picked up a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Senior Jacquay Holmes started the game with a short jumper in UIC's first possession. At the 13:25 mark, UIC drained three straight treys and Freshman Briana Hinkle hit two consecutive buckets for a 17-6 lead.
The Wildcats answered with a 25-3 run to take an eight-point advantage (30-20) with 2:12 left in the first half. Holding the Flames to three points in over six minutes of play, Johnson ended the run on a layup, plus two free throws.
Northwestern headed into halftime with a ten-point lead, 34-24.
Trailing by 15 points early in the second half, Grant notched a three pointer, followed by a quick layup to cut Northwestern's advantage back to ten points (45-35).
Shooting 54.5 percent from the field (18-for-33) in the final 20 minutes of play, the Wildcats notched their fifth victory, 72-57.
The Flames face Northern Iowa on Sunday, Dec. 3 in Cedar Rapids, followed by a Big Ten matchup against Wisconsin on Thursday, Dec. 7.
