Chicago, Ill.- The UIC baseball team bombarded Cleveland State pitching, pounding out 17 hits to score 12 unanswered runs and take a 12-1 victory over the Vikings in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Les Miller Field.
Justin Johnson homered for the fifth consecutive game, while Ben Trotter went 4-for-5 with four RBI to power UIC (23-15, 15-4 Horizon League) to its fourth straight league win.
Starter Zach Peterson gave up just one run in six innings, holding Cleveland State (8-28, 6-13 Horizon League) scoreless for his final five frames of work while striking out five.
Zach Wright, Jason Foster and Adam Worthington closed the door on the Viking offense by combining for three innings of one-hit work.
Johnson drove in three runs and scored three during his 2-for-3 day, highlighted by his two-run jack to left center in the fourth inning.
