Chicago, Ill. - After a second-place finish in the Chicagoland Challenge last weekend, the UIC volleyball team plays its first road game of the season against Northwestern on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 7:00 p.m. in Evanston.
The Flames enter today's match with a 2-1 record. On the season, UIC is led by Ambria Springer with 46 kills and 17 total blocks, while junior transfer Amanda Kenny and senior Julie Popp pace the Flames with 34 digs apiece.
Springer and senior Katie Kozak were named to the 2006 Chicagoland Challenge All-Tournament team and Springer also earned Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday, Aug. 28. Kozak dominated versus DePaul on Saturday, Aug. 26 with a triple-double in a 3-0 sweep over the Blue Demons.
This marks Northwestern's opening match of the season. The Wildcats are coming off one of their best seasons in school history after making their first-ever NCAA Tournament second round appearance in 2005. Northwestern finished last season 20-12 overall and sixth in the Big Ten (10-10).
Following today's match, the Flames travel south to face off in the 2006 Best Western Tournament hosted by South Florida, Sept 1-2. UIC battles USF to kick off the tournament on Friday, Sept. 1 at 6:00 p.m.
