Chicago, Ill. - Western Michigan topped the Flames' volleyball team in the final match of the UIC Invitational on Saturday night (30-25, 30-23, 30-26). The Flames head to Eastern Illinois on Tuesday, Sept. 19 to battle Eastern Illinois before tackling their Horizon League schedule next weekend.
Junior Katarina Nedeljkovic posted a team-high 13 kills and added eight digs on the night. Freshman Lana Lobdell was named to the all-tournament team after notching 31 kills, eight blocks and a .305 attack percentage in three matches. Senior Katie Kozak led the team on defense with 14 digs, while also owning a team-high 27 assists. Liz Hrebic paced UIC with three service aces and totaled 11 digs against the Broncos.
Western Michigan posted a .341 attack percentage, leading 11-9 early in game one. The Flames inched back late in the game to get within three points (28-24), but WMU posted two consecutive kills for the victory (30-25).
Despite improving their offensive numbers in game two with a .371 attack percentage, the Broncos also continued to dominate offensively, posting a .475 clip. UIC struck first, but the Broncos held the lead throughout game two for the 2-0 advantage (30-23).
Recording 22 kills, 22 digs and a .356 attack percentage in game three, Western Michigan clinched the sweep over UIC (30-26).
The Flames travel to Charleston, Ill. on Tuesday, Sept. 19 to take on Eastern Illinois at 7:00 p.m. before heading into Horizon League action.
