Chicago, Ill. - Despite a late comeback against North Texas, the UIC volleyball (5-9) fell to the Mean Green in five games (22-30, 19-30, 30-22, 30-22, 12-15) on Saturday afternoon. Five players recorded double figures in kills with junior Amanda Kenny pacing the Flames with 15, while also posting a season-high .429 attack percentage. Katarina Nedeljkovic recorded her 21st career double-double with 13 kills and 19 digs.
Julie Popp tied her career-high with 28 digs and senior Katie Kozak picked up a season-high 62 assists against UNT. Freshman Lana Lobdell recorded a season-high 13 kills and led UIC at the net with five blocks. Junior Ashley Martin posted a season-high ten kills and a .233 attack percentage in the match.
Posting a .297 attack percentage, North Texas jumped ahead with a 14-8 advantage. UIC sparked a 6-2 run to get within two points (16-14), but the Mean Green held UIC to a .052 hitting percentage to capture game one, 30-22.
North Texas continued to thrive on offense, taking an 11-point advantage (21-10) in game two. Recording a .433 hitting percentage, the Mean Green grabbed the 2-0 lead on 16 kills (30-19).
Trailing by two games, UIC turned up the heat, causing North Texas to commit ten errors in game three. Kenny and Martin added to the fire with a .333 attack percentages a piece and ten kills combined. Holding the Mean Green to a .048 hitting percentage the Flames began to inch their way back in the match with the 30-22 victory in games three.
UIC continued to shut North Texas down in game four. Posting a .283 attack percentage as a team, the Flames capitalized with 20 kills. Leading the Mean Green throughout the game, North Texas sparked a few runs, but ran out of time. UIC knotted it up and forced the match into a fifth game (30-22).
North Texas led early, but UIC bounced back with three straight points. With a 14-12 advantage, the Mean Green captured match-point on a kill by Katy Prokof.
The Flames conclude Invitational play tonight when they battle Western Michigan (9-4) at 7:00 p.m.
