Chicago, Ill. - The UIC volleyball team swept Chicago State (30-13, 30-21, 30-12) on Tuesday at the Flames Athletic Center. The Flames move to 3-5 on the season and look to improve their record this weekend at the Blue Raider Bash Tournament in Murfreesboro, Tenn., Sept. 8-9.
Ambria Springer led UIC with 12 kills and added three blocks on the night, while senior Maura McCarthy paced the Flames with ten digs. Freshmen Lana Lobdell picked up a season and team-high with seven blocks versus the Cougars. Posting a .500 attack percentage, sophomore Christin Hunt recorded a career and team-high.
UIC dominated on offense in game one, posting a .333 attack percentage. The Cougars earned the first two points before the Flames sparked a 9-1 run to take an 8-3 advantage. Not only did UIC continue to ignite offensively, the Flames also recorded ten blocks to grab the 30-13 victory.
The Flames held Chicago State to a .125 attack percentage in game two, while posting a .371 clip. The Cougars took an early 3-0 lead before the Flames took control, allowing Chicago State to only get within six points. Recording a team-high .625 attack percentage from junior Amanda Kenny, UIC clinched game two, 30-21.
Allowing the Cougars a combined 12 points in game three, UIC earned its second sweep of the season with a 30-12 win.
The Flames travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. for the Blue Raider Bash, Sept. 8-9. The Flames kick off the three-match event against St. Louis University on Friday, Sept. 8 at 4:30 p.m.
