UIC Volleyball Challenges Chicago State On Tuesday Night

Chicago, Ill. - The University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball team return home following the USF tournament last weekend to host Chicago State on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 7:00 p.m. The Flames enter tonight's matchup against the Cougars 2-5 on the season.

After averaging 5.18 digs per game in the USF Invitational, senior Julie Popp was named to the all-tournament team, following the conclusion of the three-match event. The libero earned a career and team-high 28 digs versus Towson on Sept. 2

Senior Ambria Springer also posted a stellar performance, recording a team-high .231 attack percentage. The middle blocker led the Flames with 14 blocks and five service aces. Springer recorded a team and career-high .409 attack percentage against South Florida on Sept. 1.

On the season, freshmen Katerina Hanackova paces UIC with a .240 attack percentage, while Katarina Nedeljkovic has totaled 102 kills in seven matches. Senior Katie Kozak leads the squad with 302 assists and 11 service aces. Julie Popp guides the Flames with 105 digs and Springer has posted 25 blocks on the year.

Chicago State looks to pick up its first win of the season after dropping its first seven matches in 2006. The Cougars are powered by Shamara Clark with 49 kills and nine service aces. Katie Pommier guides the Cougars with 50 digs and four blocks, while Courtney Stephens leads the squad with 63 assists.

The Flames hit the road for the Blue Raider Bash in Springer's hometown of Murfressboro, Tennessee, Sept. 8-9. UIC faces off against St. Louis University on Friday, Sept. 8 at 4: 30 p.m, followed by two showdowns against host Middle Tennessee and Miami (OH) on Saturday.
