Murfressboro, Tenn. - The UIC volleyball team fell to St. Louis University in four games (25-30, 27-30, 30-19, 23-30) on Friday night in the opening match of the Blue Raider Bash. The Flames move to 3-6 on the season and wrap up tournament play tomorrow when they face host Middle Tennessee State at 11:30 a.m., followed by a matchup against Miami (OH) at 7:30 p.m.
UIC had three players record double-digits in kills with Murfreesboro, Tenn. native Ambria Springer leading the team with 13. Senior libero Julie Popp powered on defense with a team-high 15 digs and freshman Lana Lobdell guided the Flames at the net with five blocks.
UIC led early, taking a 14-9 advantage before St. Louis sparked a 7-2 run to tie game one at 16-16. The Billikens continued their offensive dominance, posting a .302 hitting percentage to pick up the first game (30-27).
SLU jumped ahead in game two. The Flames tied it a 5-5, but the Billikens would only allow UIC to get as close as two points before taking the 30-25 victory.
St. Louis led 7-4 in game three, but the Flames battled back and knotted it up at 8-8. UIC held the Billikens to a -.098 attack percentage, allowing SLU to only record 19 points for the win (30-19).
The Billikens bounced back in game four with a .326 attack percentage. UIC tied it early (4-4), but SLU widened the gap, eventually capturing the 3-1 victory (30-23).
UIC faces host Middle Tennessee State at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9 and closes out the three-match event against Miami (OH) at 7:30 p.m.
