Chicago, Ill.- The UIC women's swimming and diving team won 11 of 13 events to down Cleveland State, 138-88, at the UIC Natatorium in the final regular season dual meet of the year.
UIC captured its third consecutive dual meet victory.
Leading the way was freshman Shaina Israel, who won a team-leading three individual races. The walk-on distance specialist won the 1000 free in 10:44.42 and came back just 13 minutes afterwards to swim a first-place 2:00.11 in the 200 free.
Later Israel swam a victorious 500 free in 5:16.70.
Junior Colleen Dougherty won two events, taking the 50 free in :24.72 and winning the 100 free in :54.25.
Sarah Economides also picked up two victories during the meet. The senior diver won the one-meter event with a tally of 283.75, winning the competition by nearly 100 points, before winning the three-meter contest with 279 points.
Senior Kelly Hyatt won the 100 fly in 1:00.06, while junior Andrea Giczewski took the 100 backstroke in 1:00.23.
UIC's relays were equally as impressive. Jessica Darud, Ashley Simos, Hyatt and Giczewski combined for a winning 1:50.23 in the 200 medley relay, and the foursome of Hyatt, Dougherty, Giczewski and Emily Biancalana teamed up for a first-place 1:37.91.
"Going 3-0 in our last three dual meets really gives us some momentum," said UIC head coach Paul Moniak. "Hopefully this momentum will carry into the Horizon League Championships."
The UIC swimming and diving program recognized seniors Biancalana, Darud, Economides, Hyatt, Meghan Daly and Lisa Nelson before the meet with a special ceremony.
