Madison, Wis. - UIC softball fell to Wisconsin, 4-3, on Tuesday night at Robert and Irwin Goodman Softball Complex in Madison. Tied in the bottom of the seventh, Wisconsin's Ricci Robben hit an RBI double down the left field line to pick up the winning RBI with no outs.
Senior Eden Brock (13-7) picks up the win for the Badgers in the circle, while sophomore Sarah Clynes falls to 10-12 on the season.
Clynes was 1-for-3 with one run scored and one double. Freshman Brooke Frydendall and junior Nicole Robinson were 1-for-3 with one RBI a piece. Robinson notched her eight RBI on the season. Sophomore Melissa Marinacci was 1-for-3 with one run scored and junior Brittany Dixon was 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Robben was 3-for-4 with one run scored and a team-high two RBI. Samantha Polito was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
With one on in the bottom of the first inning, Wisconsin's Hnatyck hit a double down the left field line. Vasquez then drew a walk to load the bases with one out. UIC held the Badgers with a force out at home, followed by a line out to Robinson at shortstop to end the inning.
UIC took the early lead in the top of the second inning on three hits. Marinacci continued to dominate at the plate, ripping a single up the middle to get things started for the Flames. Mallory Studzinski followed with a hit to put two on base with one out. Dixon then dropped a single short into left field, sending Marinacci home for the 1-0 lead.
Theresa Boruta doubled down the left field line to start the bottom of the second inning. With Boruta at third base, Anderson laid down a sacrifice bunt to tie the game at 1-1.
The Flames gained back the run they gave up in the second on an RBI double deep to center field by Robinson, sending Jacoby home who reached on a walk (2-1).
Anderson drilled a double deep to right center in the bottom of the fourth, followed by a RBI single up the middle by Polito to knot up the game at 2-2. Robben gave Wisconsin a 3-2 advantage on an RBI single to left field.
Clynes drove a double to the left field fence to lead off the top of the fifth inning. Ackerman moved Clynes over to third base on a sacrifice bunt, followed by a RBI single between the third basemen and shortstop by Frydendall to tie the game for the third time at 3-3.
Wisconsin held the Flames in the top of the seventh, Vasquez hit a double to the left field wall. Robben then ripped a double down the left field line to pick up the winning RBI, 4-3.
The Flames host crosstown rival DePaul on Thursday, April 19 at Flames Field. The "Red Out" game is slated for a 4:00 p.m. start.
