Box Score
Chicago, Ill.- The UIC baseball team scored 13 unanswered runs to pick up a 14-2 victory over visiting Butler at Les Miller Field on Friday night.
All nine starters reached base safely at least twice for UIC (28-17, 18-4 Horizon League), which trimmed its magic number for its sixth consecutive Horizon League regular season title to two games. Any combination of UIC wins and Wright State losses will clinch the championship for the Flames.
Tyler Moore homered for the second consecutive game and Micky Pingree drove in four runs to pace UIC's balanced offensive attack.
Zach Peterson recovered from some early control problems to toss eight innings and pick up his fifth straight decision.
Trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the third, UIC scored three runs in the inning to take the lead for the first time. Pingree hit a two-run single to plate the tying and go-ahead runs.
But that wouldn't be the last of the Flames' scoring, as 10 UIC runs crossed the plate during the sixth and seventh innings.
After allowing three walks in the first two innings, Peterson regained his usual attacking form and didn't allow a run in his final six frames.
The Flames and the Bulldogs finish their series with a doubleheader at Les Miller Field on Saturday beginning at 1:05 p.m.
