Box Score

Chicago, Ill.- The UIC baseball team clinched its sixth consecutive Horizon League regular season championship with a 4-2 victory over Butler in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Les Miller Field on Saturday.

The Flames, who improved to 30-17 overall and 20-4 in league play, will be the top seed in the 2007 Horizon League Baseball Championship tourney at Les Miller Field in two weeks.

The victory also marked the eighth consecutive 30-win season for the Flames.

After allowing three singles and a run in the first inning, starter Steve Crnkovich settled down to retire 18 in a row and earn his third win of the year.

Down by a run after three innings, the Flames went ahead in the fourth when Ty Rubio singled up the middle with two runners in scoring position for a pair of RBI.

UIC padded its advantage in the following frame when Micky Pingree smacked a two-run double to right field that brought home two more runs.

Since starting out 1-2 in league play, the Flames have gone 19-2 against conference foes.

UIC closes out the regular season home slate with a game against Northwestern at Les Miller Field this Tuesday at 7:35 p.m. Senior Day festivities will take place prior to the game.
