Chicago, Ill. The UIC volleyball team (7-4) picked up its fourth straight victory with a sweep (30-19, 30-22, 30-27) over Northern Illinois on Tuesday night at the Flames Athletic Center.
"I thought we came out with an aggressive game plan and executed," said head coach Nancy Mueller. "It feels really great to play with consistency and we kept our mistakes to a minimum. Our key to tonight's success was the ability to win the long rallies and finish the blocks."
Senior Amanda Kenny recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Katerina Hanackova also notched a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs.
Sophomore Lana Lobdell totaled four blocks, 11 kills and tied her career-high .625 attack percentage. Freshman Epiphany Davis led UIC at the net with six blocks, while junior Christin Hunt added 11 kills on the night.
NIU's Laura Baetzel paced the Huskies with 13 kills and Maddie Hughes totaled a team-high 16 digs.
UIC dominated right out of the gates, posting a .333 attack percentage in game one. Leading 11-10, the Flames posted a 10-4 run en route to a 30-19 triumph. With tenacious defense, UIC forced Northern Illinois to commit seven errors and held the squad to just 12 kills.
Game two remained tight until the Flames recorded a 9-4 run to take a 21-15 advantage. Lobdell totaled a team-high five kills and a .833 attack percentage to help guide UIC to a 30-22 victory.
UIC pulled away to a 10-2 lead early in game three, but Northern Illinois battled back late in the frame to only trail 29-26. Kenny drilled the final kill to capture the sweep for the Flames.
The Flames remain at home to open Horizon League action on Friday, Sept. 14 in a RED OUT match against Milwaukee at 7:00 p.m.
