Chicago, Ill. - The UIC volleyball team captured its third straight win on Saturday afternoon with a sweep (25-16, 25-18, 25-21) over Youngstown State at the Flames Athletic Center.
Casie Sullivan recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Epiphany Davis also stepped up offensively with 10 kills and a .643 attack percentage. Lana Lobdell led UIC at the net with five blocks.
Karla Everhart paced YSU's defense with a match-high 25 digs.
UIC opened the match with a 14-5 burst on back-to-back runs to take an early lead in set one. The Flames cruised to a nine-point win in set one after holding Youngstown State to a negative attack percentage.
The Flames recorded a comeback halfway through the second set with a 7-3 burst to knot it up at 11 each. UIC controlled the momentum following the run, allowing the Penguins to get within just three points late in the frame before notching the 25-18 victory.
Set three was a tight matchup before the Flames recorded six straight points (10-6). The Flames were one point shy of the sweep before Youngstown State sparked a final effort with four unanswered points, but UIC's Lobdell clinched the victory with the final kill.
The Flames take a break from Horizon League action next week when they face Western Illinois on Tuesday, Oct. 21 in Macomb, Ill.
