Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's basketball team fell to crosstown rival DePaul, 90-67, on Monday night at the UIC Pavilion.
Jessie Miller tied her season-high with 24 points, including three three-pointers. Jasmine Bailey was 8-for-10 from the field, totaling 16 points for the fourth time this season. Bailey also led the Flames with nine rebounds.
Natasha Williams paced DePaul with 29 points and 11 boards.
"I was impressed by the team's comeback in the second half," said head coach Lisa Ryckbosch. "We are now looking forward to a successful tournament in San Diego that honors a remarkable coach."
DePaul opened the first half with a 23-2 run. Kristin Petrinec sparked UIC's offense with back-to-back buckets seven minutes into the first stanza.
Trailing by 23 points, the Flames got within 14 on an 11-2 run than ended on a layup from Shanice Sadler.
DePaul regrouped following a timeout with eight straight points to recapture a 23-point lead, but UIC chipped off four on a pair of buckets in the final minute of the first half.
UIC turned on the heat offensively in the second half. Consecutive three-pointers by Miller sparked a 10-2 burst that cut the deficit to just nine points with 11:47 on the clock.
DePaul turned the momentum with eight minutes left in regulation and pulled away to seal the 90-67 win.
UIC is back on the hardwood next Sunday, Dec. 28 when they face San Diego in the opening round of the Maggie Dixon Surf N' Slam Classic in San Diego Calif.
The Flames and Toreros are set to square off at 8 p.m. CST. UIC then concludes tournament action against either New Mexico State or Long Beach State on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
