Los Angeles, Calif. - The UIC softball team suffered a 2-0 loss to host Loyola Marymount on Sunday afternoon in the first of two games against the Lions in the final day of the LMU Tournament in Los Angeles.
Melissa Marinacci was 1-for-2 at the plate with one double, while Brittany Dixon picked up UIC's second hit of the game. Whitney Orellana (0-4) totaled four strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work for the Flames.
Amy Charpentier put the Lions in scoring position in the bottom of the first inning on a triple to right field. Chelsie Tysdal gave LMU a one-run lead on an RBI single to center field, sending Charpentier home.
The Flames (7-17) threatened to tie the score in the top of the fifth after loading the bases with just one out, but were unable to capitalize as LMU ended the inning on consecutive outs at home and second base.
Darcy Pagnini drilled a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend Loyola Marymount's lead. The Lions held UIC in the top of the seventh for the win.
The Flames face the Lions this afternoon at 2 p.m. CST to wrap up tournament play for the weekend.
