Chicago, Ill. - The UIC softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep over Green Bay on Wednesday night at Flames Field. The Flames downed the Phoenix, 13-1 in five innings, followed by a 6-0 triumph to complete the sweep.
UIC 13, Green Bay 1 (5 innings)
Sarah Clynes tossed a two-hitter versus Green Bay in game one with six strikeouts in five innings pitched. With the win, the junior moves to 8-11 on the season.
Alicia Abbott was 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs, one double and three RBI. Ashlee Ackerman notched two hits with three runs, one double and three RBI. The Flames totaled seven doubles.
Three Green Bay pitchers made an appearance in game one with Anna Bluemel (4-4) picking up the loss in the circle.
UIC (13-21) took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on three hits. Abbott drove in the first run of the game on an RBI single. Brooke Frydendall then singled up the middle, sending Abbott home. With the bases loaded, Melissa Marinacci scored on a throwing error by the Green Bay pitcher to own a 3-0 advantage.
Dixon led off the second inning with a double to right field. Clynes then doubled to left field for a four-run lead (4-0). With Ackerman on third base, Abbott drilled an RBI double to left center for an additional run.
The Flames lit up the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning with eight runs. After Abbott picked up her second RBI of the game, Marinacci popped up a sacrifice fly to centerfield for a 7-0 lead.
Green Bay's Dana Brockman notched the squad's solo run of the game on a home run in the top of the fifth inning.
UIC totaled its final five runs on an RBI from Chavez, a three-run RBI double from Ackerman and an RBI single to right center from pinch hitter Christie Seddon.

Whitney Orellana earned her first collegiate win of the season in the nightcap against the Phoenix. Orellana fanned five batters and allowed just five hits in 7.0 innings of work.
Frydendall was 2-for-3 at the plate with one double, one, run, two RBI and one home run.
The Flames got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double to left field from Abbott. UIC tacked on a run in the third with a solo shot to centerfield from Clynes.
Clynes and Abbott drove in two runs in the bottom of the fifth. UIC took a 6-0 lead in the following inning on a two-run homer to left field from Frydendall, marking her first of the season.
UIC heads to Ohio this weekend for a three-game series against Youngstown State April 5 and 6.
