CLEVELAND - The UIC volleyball team's offensive output was limited for the first time in Horizon League play as Cleveland State claimed a 3-0 victory at the Woodling Gym on Friday night.
The Flames (7-10, 2-2 Horizon) were held to a scant 31 kills, the least amount seen during league action this season.
"Cleveland State is a very good team," said head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley. "We need to be able to adjust quicker and execute more efficiently."
A tight first set began to unravel when three consecutive attacking errors gave the Vikings (14-5, 3-1 Horizon) the lead which they would not relinquish for a 25-17 win.
Casie Sullivan and Epiphany Davis created some offensive momentum in set two, as the juniors produced three and four kills, respectively, for the squad's first lead of the contest.
Successive attacking errors by the Flames gave the Vikings breathing room at 19-15, allowing CSU to close out the second set, 25-21.
UIC was limited to seven kills in set three. The Flames were thwarted by the Viking's Amy Benz, who had a game-high 13 kills, five of which came in the deciding set of the evening.
"We must regain focus and prepare for tomorrow's match at Wright State." said Schumacher-Cawley.
The Flames face the Raiders at C.J. McLin Gymnasium at 3:00 p.m. Central. Fans can watch the game live on the Horizon League Network.
