CHICAGO - The UIC volleyball team is encouraging all fans to wear pink when they return to Chicago for the first time since Oct. 11 on Friday evening when the team hosts the Butler Bulldogs in the annual Dig For The Cure match at the Flames Athletic Center at 7 p.m.
As Breast Cancer Awareness month draws to a close, the Flames are recognizing an extremely important cause this weekend. All fans in attendance on Friday evening are encouraged to wear pink and the first 100 fans in attendance will receive a free Dig For The Cure pink t-shirt. In addition, Paul Mitchell The School will be on hand to provide haircuts with all donations from those haircuts set to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
UIC will be debuting specially designed pink jerseys for the match, as well.
"Our Dig For The Cure event is a small recognition for a large problem," said UIC head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley. "Breast cancer has touched everyone's lives in some shape or form. Our UIC Volleyball Family is proud to celebrate the effort and energy given by so many to find a cure.
"Friday we celebrate women and men who have conquered this disease, those who are fighting it, and those who have lost loved ones. I hope everyone will come out and share in this special day with us."
Friday's match between the Flames and Bulldogs will begin at 7 p.m. at the Flames Athletic Center, 839 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Chicago.
