MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The UIC volleyball team concluded the 2010 regular season on Saturday night with a straight-set loss to the Horizon League's top team, the Milwaukee Panthers (25-18, 25-5, 25-22).
The Panthers (20-8, 15-1 Horizon League) controlled the match from the very beginning, scoring the first six points of the opening set. Milwaukee expanded the lead to 10 points on several different occasions during the set before eventually dropping UIC (13-17, 7-9 Horizon League), 25-18.
The Panthers were completely dominant in the second set, beating the Flames by 20 points, 25-5.
With their backs against the wall, UIC fell behind, 12-5, before mounting a furious comeback to eventually take the lead at 20-19 after a kill by Janise Dismuke. That prompted a Panther timeout; after a quick timeout, the two squads traded points until the game was tied 22 apiece. Three straight points, capped by a kill from UWM's Kerri Schuh, sealed the deal for the home team.
Nicole Allgood led UIC with eight kills in the match, while Dismuke added seven kills and a team-high two blocks.
The Flames will enter next weekend's Horizon League Tournament as the sixth seed. Their first match will be on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. against Cleveland State, the third seed. Milwaukee, the top seed with just one conference loss this season, will host the tournament.
