EL PASO, Texas - The UIC women's tennis team won their fifth straight match when they defeated UTEP 4-3 at the El Paso Tennis Club on Friday afternoon.
The Flames jumped out to an early advantage taking the doubles point with wins from the pairs of Mariya Kovaleva/Kristen McPhillips and Zlatka Petrova/Elena Antakova.
Kovaleva and Antakova also added points in singles play.
Kovaleva defeated Miners' Dariva Abdrakhmanova in two straight sets at the number one position. Kovaleva made easy work of Abdrakhmanova taking the first 6-1 and finished the match off with a 6-3 win in set two.
Antakova took her match in two sets, defeating Ximena Fuentes 6-3 in set one and claiming the match and point for UIC with a 6-2 win in set two.
Amy Jellish rounded the day out for the Flames, winning her match in three sets (7-5, 3-6, 6-2) to give UIC the win.
The Flames will travel to Las Cruces, New Mexico to take on New Mexico State on Saturday March 6 at 10 a.m.
