CHICAGO - The UIC baseball team scored at least three runs in five of the first six innings as it pounded the visiting Butler Bulldogs on Friday night, 19-6.

It was a total team effort at Les Miller Field on Friday as UIC (8-17, 4-3 Horizon League) opened a five-game homestand by banging out 21 hits and pushing across 19 runs against visiting Butler (8-18, 1-6).

All eight of Mike Dee's hitters in the starting lineup scored at least one run in the ballgame.

Five different Flames racked up at least three hits, and four UIC hitters had at least four RBI.

Senior Chris Rutta got four hits, two of which were two-baggers. The Rothschild, Wis. native finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI and a pair of runs scored. Third baseman Jason Ganek had three hits of his own and crossed the plate a game-high four times.

Nathan Orf, John Rosinski and Ryan Meehan also knocked in three runs apiece for the UIC attack. All three of Meehan's RBI came in the form of a fourth-inning three-run blast.

Leadoff man Steve McGuiggan also stole two bases in the offensive onslaught. Sophomore Michael Heesch picked up his second win of the season. The lefty threw two scoreless innings to start the evening in what was designated as a "staff day."

Seven other hurlers pitched one inning apiece for UIC in the win. Joey Begel, Mike Schoolcraft, Brad Riegler and Matt Salemi all fanned at least one batter.

The Flames and Bulldogs will be right back at The Mill on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 1:05 p.m.
