CHICAGO - The UIC men's and women's swimming and diving teams will begin their seasons by welcoming Horizon League foe Wright State in the regular-season opener on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m., at the Flames Natatorium.
UIC will open up the season against Wright State for the fourth consecutive year. In last season's match-up, the men's squad topped the Raiders 153-87, while the women fell 127-110.
With six seniors leading the men's squad and eight seniors for the women's team, the Flames return a plethora of experienced returners to carry over toward the newcomers.
Last season, women's swimmer Clair Martin broke the school record in the 100 back with a time of 56.31 and the 200 back with 2:00.28, while Melanie Waszak took over the 500 Free with a time of 4:55.24.
The men's squad was on top of their game last season, breaking a total of 11 school records; with returning senior Luke Martinez taking the 400 IM and 100 Breast with times of 3:55.22 and 1:50.29, respectively, and contributing with former standouts in the 800 Free Relay.
Following the Flames meet against the Raiders, the men and women head to Eastern Illinois on Saturday, Oct. 29 where they will face the Panthers at 1 p.m.
