PEORIA, Ill. - The UIC men's cross country team finished in fourth place and totaled 133 points at the Bradley Classic Friday at Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill. Brian Denk (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) led the Flames in the eight-kilometer race with a 10th-place finish in 25:13. The UIC women's cross country team finished in 18th place and compiled 508 points. Tess Ehrhardt(Geneva, Ill./Geneva) led the team in the six-kilometer race with a 70th-place finish in 22:55.44.
"It was great that our men's team beat four of our conference team rivals," said head coach Jim Knoedel. "But if we don't do it again in two weeks it won't be worth the effort."
Drake won the men's team race with 76 points and was followed by Wichita State with 111 points. UIC finished in fourth place (133 points) beating conference rivals Loyola who finished in fifth place (134 points), eighth-place UW-Milwaukee (242 points), ninth-place Butler (259 points) and 19th-place UW-Green Bay (543 points).
Senior Brian Denk (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) led the Flames with a tenth-place finish in 25:13. Denk was followed closely by fellow senior Sam Kehoe (LaGrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township). Kehoe finished in 14th place in 25:17.1. Senior Tyler Hinckley(Schaumburg, Ill./Conant) rounded out the top three Flames runners with a 16th-place finish in 25:20.1.
On the women's side, Missouri won the team race with 65 points. For the Horizon League teams Butler finished fourth (133 points), Loyola finished 11th (235 points), UW-Green Bay finished 16th (467 points), UIC finished 18th (508 points) and UW-Milwaukee finished 20th (550 points).
"I know we can do better on the women's side," said Knoedel. "We are going to have to step it up at the conference meet in two weeks and I know we will."
Freshman Tess Ehrhardt (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) led the Flames with a 70th-place finish in 22:55.44. Freshman Rebecca Zaiter (Elmhurst, Ill./York) notched a 90th-place finish in 23:15.23. Junior Jaime Johnson(River Grove, Ill./East Leyden) finished in 96th place in 23:23.96.
The men's and women's cross country teams return to action on October 29, 2011 at the Horizon League Championships in Cleveland, Ohio.
