Box Score
VALPARAISO, Ind. - The UIC baseball team was held to only four hits on Sunday afternoon as it fell in the finale of a three-game set at Valparaiso, 13-1.
The Flames (12-12, 4-2 Horizon League) did not record their first hit until the top of the fifth inning when Josh Nevers laced a one-out single to left field. Unfortunately, he would be stranded there and UIC was unable to dent the scoreboard.
Valpo (6-20, 3-3 Horizon League) scored once in the second, three times in the fourth and three more times in the sixth inning to build a 7-0 lead. UIC finally struck for its lone tally in the top of the eighth inning when second baseman Matt Serna doubled down the left field line, allowing Ryan Shober, who reached via hit by pitch, to score.
The Crusaders struck for six more runs in the bottom of the eighth to put the game out of reach for good.
Andy Leonard and Harry Kammholz had the other hits for the Flames.
UIC will return to Les Miller Field to start a nine-game homestand beginning Tuesday night. The Flames will host Edgewood College at 7:05 p.m. before welcoming the Milwaukee Panthers for a three-game Horizon League set on Friday and Saturday.
