WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - For the second time this season, the Purdue Boilermakers ran rough shod over the UIC baseball team, this time by a score of 12-1 at Lambert Field in the non-conference finale for both teams.

The Boilermakers (33-18) plated four runs in the second, five in the third and another in the fourth to build a 10-0 lead before the Flames (24-24) could get the bats going Tuesday. UIC was also plagued by three defensive miscues in the loss.

After a scoreless opening inning, the Boilermakers got on the scoreboard first, pushing across four runs in the home half of the second on the strength of just two hits. Barrett Serrato singled to lead off the frame, moved to second base on a passed ball and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Andrew Dixon. Tyler Spillner touched the dish on a wild pitch and Angelo Cianfrocco scored when Matt Serna dropped a throw from Harry Kammholz to try to cut down David Miller as he attempted to steal second base. The fourth run of the inning scored when Stephen Talbott touched the plate on a sacrifice fly by Eric Charles.

The Flames began the third inning with back-to-back singles, but pinch runner Jacob McNamara was cut down at third base on a bunt attempt and Steve McGuiggan, who was made his first start since April 9, grounded into an inning-ending double play.

Purdue kept added to the advantage once again in the third inning, this time adding five runs to extend the lead to 9-0 through one-third of the game. The Boilermakers batted around with Serrato and Perkins delivering RBI hits in the frame. The home team added another run in fourth inning off reliever Chris Hoffman to make it 10-0.

UIC first dented the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning. Jon Ryan was hit by a pitch to lead off the game and McGuiggan followed with a double, his first since March 25 when he notched a pair of two-baggers against Cleveland State. Ryan moved to third on the play and eventually scored on Nick Addison's team-leading fifth sacrifice fly of the season to make it, 10-1.

Purdue retaliated in the seventh, adding two more runs. Jake Hansen had an RBI single up the middle and Perkins added a sacrifice fly to make 12-1.

McGuiggan delivered a web gem in the field in his first full game since early April. With no outs in the bottom of the eighth, the center fielder charged hard to left center field and fully extended to make the catch and erase Spillner.

Matt Serna went 1-for-3 with a walk at the plate on Tuesday. With his infield single in the fourth inning, the senior extended his streak of reaching base safely to 26 games.

Charlie Weinberg (6-5) was saddled with his second loss of the season against Purdue. The sophomore surrendered seven runs on two hits in 2.0 innings of work. The right-hander walked three, hit two batters and struck out one in his 10th start of the season.

The Flames will finish the regular season with a three-game series at Les Miller Field against the Youngstown State Penguins. UIC will host the `Guins on Thursday at 6:05 p.m. The regular season will conclude on Friday with a doubleheader at The Mill. The first pitch Friday between Youngstown State and the Flames is set for 12:05 p.m. Following the second game, the careers of UIC's five seniors will be recognized and honored in a brief ceremony.
