Women's Tennis Concludes Play At Northwestern Invitational

Jan. 15, 2012

EVANSTON, Ill. - The UIC women's tennis team rounded out play at the Northwestern Invitational by taking on the host team in singles action. In going head-to-head with No. 12 Northwestern, the Flames were unable to come away with a win in five matches.

UIC faced tough competition from the Wildcats, despite not seeing the likes of nationally-ranked Kate Turvy (No. 26) and Brittany Wowchuk (No. 86).

Polina Guimaraes (Granger, Ind./Granger Christian) went down 6-1 in her first set against Veronica Corning, before coming back but falling 7-5 in the second.

Haley Craig (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) was in a hard-fought battle with Nida Hamilton, taking their first set to 7-6 (3) and having their second set end 7-6 (2).

The Flames resume play as they begin their dual season against Wisconsin, in Madison at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium, on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 2:30 p.m. (CT).
