INDIANAPOLIS - Senior middle hitter Janise Dismuke (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) has been named the Horizon League's "Offensive Player of the Week" for the period of Sept. 30-Oct. 7, it was announced by the conference office Tuesday morning.
"Janise has the ability to take over a match," head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley said. "She played at a high level over the last week. She has been working hard in practice, and this award is a reflection of her and her teammates pushing each other to be better every day."
Dismuke assisted her team to a 3-0 week inside the Flames Athletic Center. UIC first swept Eastern Illinois Oct. 3, while Dismuke posted a career-high .812 hitting percentage (13-0-16). The .800-plus percentage landed her in the Flames record book as the third-highest single-match hitting percentage in program history. It is also the best percentage by a player in the Horizon League this season.
Dismuke then posted a match-high 13 kills, while hitting at .400 as the Flames defeated Green Bay, 3-0 Oct. 5. The senior capped of the week with a .467 hitting percentage and 18 kills as the UIC team defeated Milwaukee, 3-2, and improved to 4-2 in the Horizon League.
Dismuke holds the two highest hitting percentages in the Horizon League this season, and ranks second in the conference with a .327 hitting percentage.
Dismuke and the rest of the UIC team return to action Friday against Loyola at 7:00 p.m. (CT) inside Gentile Arena on the north side of Chicago.
