CHICAGO - The UIC men's and women's indoor track and field teams will be competing in split-squad action this weekend, with a selection of athletes heading to both the Chicagoland Championships in Naperville, Ill., and the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. Competition will run both Friday and Saturday.
North Central College will host the Chicagoland Championships, with women's events set for Friday night, and the men's portion scheduled for Saturday. The Iowa State Classic's non-seeded field events will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, followed by non-seeded running events. The seeded events for both the field and running events will take place on Saturday.
More than 50 teams will compete in the ISU Classic, including UIC, Northern Iowa, North Texas, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kansas State, Iowa, DePaul, Wichita State, Southern Methodist, Nebraska, Miami (FL) and Bradley.
The UIC men's and women's indoor track & field teams wrapped up competition in the historic Meyo Invitational last Saturday, coming away with three school records, and nine top-10 finishes between the individual events and relays.
The women's distance medley relay team comprised of Jaime Johnson, Ariel Kirby, Rebecca Zaiter and Tess Ehrhardt set the school record, crossing the finishing line in 12:04.81.
In the women's pole vault, Kellie Schuh leaped 3.86 meters to top the existing school record. Ehrhardt capped off a stellar all-around meet by capturing the school record in the 1-Mile Run (5:08.59).
On the men's side, Michael Stupka crossed the finishing line in 49.28 seconds in the 400-meter dash, good for 20th place in the field. In the 800-meter run, Matt Zaluckyj finished with a time of 1:53.45.
