PEORIA, Ill. - The UIC baseball team picked up a non-league victory on Wednesday night at Bradley by a final score of 3-1 on O'Brien Field, home of the class A Peoria Chiefs. The Flames displayed phenomenal pitching from freshman Tim Tarter, sophomore Collin Weyer and senior Chris Hoffman. Tarter received his first collegiate start and lasted 4.2 innings, scattering five hits and allowed the Braves' only run on the night. Weyer was awarded the win as he pitched four innings of shutout ball and fanned three BU batters.

"We had great pitching tonight," said head coach Mike Dee. "Tim Tarter and Collin Weyer really performed well. We played solid defense and made some key hits. I thought it was a really good college baseball game that could have gone either way, but we held our ground and executed."

The Flames recorded nine total hits with redshirt junior Nick Addison and junior Joe Betcher with two cracks apiece. Addison now leads UIC with a .317 batting average. Redshirt junior Ryan Shober drove in two of the game's three runs, while junior Alex Grunenwald notched the other.

After a scoreless first inning, UIC posted the first run of the evening in the top of the second frame. Sophomore Ryan Boss began the inning with a single through the left side and was eventually sent to third on a walk and a sacrifice. That's when Shober hit a grounder to the shortstop and Boss was able to trot home safely.

The Flames tacked on their second score in the top of the third inning as redshirt junior Alex De LaRosa kicked things off with a single. Betcher advanced De LaRosa to second with a single of his own and then Grunenwald drove in De LaRosa with poke through the left side.

The Braves received their lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly RBI from Greg Partyka, cutting UIC's lead down to 2-1.

In the top of the sixth, sophomore Alex Jurich started the frame with his first career triple that found its way deep into left field. Jurich was eventually sent home by Shober on a groundout to second base.

From that point on neither team scored and the Flames bullpen didn't allow another Bradley hit. Hoffman came in for the final out and earned his first save of the year.

UIC will return to action on Friday at 2 p.m. CT as they host Youngstown State in a three-game series.
