CHICAGO - The UIC men's and women's outdoor track & field teams will officially open the 2012 season Saturday, when the Flames participate in both the Mike Poehlein Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind., and the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State.
Saturday's action at the Poehlein Invite, hosted by Purdue, will begin at 10 a.m. The Raleigh Relays are set to start at 9 a.m. CST on Saturday. The majority of UIC's roster will be competing in West Lafayette, while Matt Zaluckyj, Josh Stanner, Sam Kehoe, Kellie Schuh and Ariel Kirby all made the trip to NC State.

A total of 553 athletes from 13 schools will compete in West Lafayette -- Saturday's action will begin with the javelin and discus to follow.
More than 80 colleges and universities, plus several dozen prominent running clubs, will send representatives to participate in the Raleigh Relays at NC State's Derr Track. Saturday's field events will kick off with the pole vault, featuring Horizon League Indoor champion Kellie Schuh.
Both the men's and women's teams claimed fifth-place finishes at the Horizon League Indoor Championships, Feb. 25-26. There were a combined nine school records set during the indoor campaign, including eight on the women's side.
The Flames' female newcomer trio of Kirby, Tess Ehrhardt and Rebecca Zaiter teamed up to set six indoor school records, including combining with Jaime Johnson to set the new standard in both the distance medley relay and 4x400 meter relay. On the men's side, Zaluckyj claimed a new school record in the 800-meter run during the indoor season.
