MILWAUKEE - The UIC baseball team split a double-header feature at Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game by a final score of 1-0 and fell the in second contest, 7-1. Junior right-hander Joey Begel earned his fourth win of the season in game one, pitching a complete-game shutout and allowing a mere six hits. The Flames now own a season record of 11-13 overall and 5-3 in the Horizon League.

Game One

The Flames recorded just two hits against UWM's Eric Semmelhack as he struck out a school-record 13 UIC batters over eight innings. After six scoreless innings, the Flames scored the game's lone run in the top of the seventh frame as Ryan Boss kicked things off with a single through left side. Alex De LaRosa advanced Boss to second on a sacrifice bunt and Jon Ryan sent him home on a one-baser up the middle.

Game Two

Freshman Brian Evak received the nod in game two and lasted 5.2 innings, yielding seven hits and five runs. Milwaukee's starter Cale Tassi continued the Panther's strong pitching performance with nine strikeouts in eight innings of work, allowing just five hits and one run.

UWM got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning as Will Fadness smacked a two-run homer over the field wall.

The Flames took one of those scores back in the third inning as Alex Jurich beginning the frame with a single to center field. He was sent to second base on a sac bunt by Ryan Shober and Cody Dykema eventually plated Jurich on a single down the left field line, cutting the Panther's lead down to 2-1.

Milwaukee held UIC scoreless for the remainder of the contest, giving up only two hits in the final six frames and the Panthers ended up with five more runs to seal the triumph.

Game three of the series is set to begin at noon CT on Sunday with Charlie Weinberg and UWM's Mike Schneider will square off on the mound.
