Diving Ends Season At NCAA Zone C Championships

March 9, 2012

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - UIC divers Mike Greco, Woody Lord, Kristi Carling and Whitney Johnson concluded their run at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships on Friday at Indiana University's Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center, while also capping off the 2011-12 season.

"The UIC divers did a good job, once again," head diving coach Susan Bromberg said. "The men were very consistent and, again, finished the event right next to each other. On the three meter, Kristi (Carling) stayed upbeat throughout the event and was able to improve upon her final place."

On the men's side, Greco and Lord rounded out the one meter prelims with finishes beside each other for the second consecutive day. Greco posted a 246.55, as Lord came in with 244.40.

Diving from the three meter, Carling placed with 179.25 in the prelims, while Johnson did not compete.

The Flames stood their own in a mix of some of the best divers in the Midwest, as each student-athlete made their first Zone C appearance.

"This meet is the toughest that the UIC divers have been in all year and there was some great diving done in the two days of competition," Bromberg added. "They have some things to work on during the off season so that next year they will be more competitive at the zone meet."

While the Flames conclude competition, the last day of the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships wraps on Saturday at 10 a.m. (CT) with platform diving.
