AMES, IOWA- Junior Tess Ehrhardt capped off an impressive cross country season with a 24th-place finish at the 2013 NCAA Midwest Regional and garnered a spot on the All-Region on Friday afternoon. As a team, the Flames placed 25th among 30 squads as the meet was hosted by Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

"Tess ran a phenomenal race against the toughest competition in the Midwest and turned in the best race of her college career," said head coach Jim Knoedel. "She started out the first part of the race around 50th and steadily worked her way up into the elite group."

Ehrhardt traversed the 6K course in a total time of 21:06.80 and was followed by sophomore Lauren Lindholm who recorded a time of 22:29.10 for a mile average of 6:02. Other Flames contributors were senior Jaime Johnson (22:50.1), junior Rebecca Zaiter (23:11.9) and sophomore Stephanie Sanders (23:12.9).

"I couldn't have been more proud of Tess's performance. She always rises to the occasion in the big races and demonstrated that with her 24th-place All-Region finish," said Knoedel.

This season Ehrhardt accumulated an abundance of accolades. In the month of October she was named Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the month, she was titled Horizon League Women's Athlete of the Year and made the All-League First Team following the 2013 Horizon League Championship. In addition, she was named the Horizon League Runner of the Week title for three-consecutive weeks and was titled the Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week two times throughout the course of the season.

The NCAA Regional meet concluded competition for the UIC cross country teams for the 2013 season. The Flames take a break in action until the indoor track season begins in early January.
