CHICAGO - The UIC baseball team (19-20, 8-9 HL) held first-place Milwaukee (17-16, 10-4 HL) to just two runs in the final six innings of Saturday's 9-3 loss, but seven Panther runs in the first two frames proved to be difference maker. UWM jumped in front early with five runs in the first inning and two in the second as the Flames struggled to plate runners, leaving 13 stranded on base.

"Milwaukee is an exceptional team," said head coach Mike Dee. "We can't make the types of defensive mistakes we've been making the past two days and expect to win."

For the second straight day, redshirt junior Andres Ortegano paced UIC at the plate by hitting 3-of-5 as redshirt junior Ryan Boss went 2-for-4. Tyler Detmer, Alex Grunenwald, Joe Betcher and Alex Jurich all tallied one hit apiece, bringing the Flames' hit count to nine.

After UIC found themselves in a 7-1 hole after two innings, both clubs scored a lone run in the fourth frame, moving the score to 8-2. Milwaukee pushed across its final run of the day in the fifth to own a 9-2 edge. The Flames were able to squeeze an additional run across in the seventh off a groundout double play ball, which cemented the 9-3 outcome.

Sunday's game is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT as senior Joey Begel will take the mound for the Flames.
