CHICAGO - The UIC volleyball team begins its 2013 campaign Friday at the two-day Kristen Dickmann Invitational in Annapolis, Md. The Flames opening match of the tournament and season is against Elon at 3:00 p.m. (CT). During the second day of the tournament, UIC faces Navy at 10:00 a.m., followed by UNC-Wilmington at 3:00 p.m.

The Flames enter the campaign after finishing runner-up at the Horizon League Championship to conclude the 2012 season. The Flames compiled a 10-4 Horizon League record to earn the No. 2 seed heading into the tournament.

Three UIC members were named to the all-Horizon League team and two were named to the all-tournament team. Senior setter MaryKate Imrie was named an AVCA Midwest Region honorable mention and the team earned a No. 9 Midwest Region ranking.

Imrie was also selected to the all-Horizon League preseason team, which was announced from the League headquarters in Indianapolis, Ind., on August 23.

The official name of the tournament is the Kristen Dickmann Invitational after a member of the 2007 volleyball team. Dickman was a freshman during that season, before she passed away in her dorm room unexpectedly from a previously undetected heart ailment. This weekend's tournament marks the fourth time the event has been named after her.
