Oct. 5, 2014 UIC Invitational Results 
CHICAGO - The UIC women's tennis team brought the UIC Invitational to a close on Sunday at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts with Northern Illinois and Valparaiso. The Flames were dominant in doubles, producing six wins and the bracket title, while they combined for eight victories in the three singles brackets.
Day one of competition got underway with doubles on Saturday at Match Point Tennis in Griffith, Ind. Senior
Keti Mebuke and junior
Ann-Sophie Hahn teamed up for a 2-1 mark, while junior
Jackie Altansarnai and sophomore
Oana Manole tallied a perfect 3-0 record. Freshman
Bianca Zuzu competed in the Round-Robin portion alongside Valparaiso's Lauren Kammerer and went 1-1.
Mebuke and Hahn came out and edged past NIU's N. Youel and De La Torre, 8-7 (2), before ousting Hebble and Hamel, 8-4, of Valparaiso. Altansarnai and Manole cruised past Valpo's Milanes and Fredlake, 8-2, and took out the Huskies' Malkin and McDonald, 8-3. It was an all Flames final, with Altansarnai and Manole garnering the title with an 8-5 win over Mebuke and Hahn.
Zuzu and Kammerer fell in their first match to NIU's Rozo and E. Youel, 8-0, but came back in their second match to capture an 8-4 win against the Crusaders' Paras and Staal.
Singles competition was played during day two at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts, with UIC holding place in the Singles A, B and C bracket finals and collecting a total of eight wins.
In the A bracket, Altansarnai saw her first singles action of the fall and went 2-1. She picked up straight-set victories in her first two matches against Valpo's Hebble, 6-4, 6-0, and NIU's Malkin, 6-3, 6-3, but suffered a 6-2, 6-2 loss in the final against NIU's N. Youel.
Manole and Hahn represented the Flames in the B bracket. Manole won her first match against NIU's De La Torre, 7-6 (5), 7-5, and won by default against the Huskies' McDonald before dropping a three-set match to NIU's Alvarez, 7-5, 2-6, 10-4. Hahn came away with a straight-set 6-2, 6-2 win against Valpo's Barthels to start competition, but fell in her next match to Alvarez, 6-0, 6-2, to move to the backdraw, where she collected a 6-1, 6-4 win against Valpo's Hamel.
Zuzu received a bye in the first round of the C bracket and then took a 7-6 (4) 6-4 win against NIU's Dekkinga to advance to the final. Zuzu was faced with the Huskies' Rozo and fell in her first set before coming back to take a 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 victory for the title.
The Flames will now await their final competition of the fall at the ITA Midwest Regionals, set for Oct. 16-19 in Champaign, Ill.
