Natalie Hernandez has re-signed with the Chicago Bandits for the 2015 season, the Bandits' general manager Aaron M. Moore announced on Friday. Hernandez joined the team in 2014 following an open tryout, where she was one-of-two to make the squad.
"I'm so excited for the privilege to play in the NPF for another year," Hernandez told ChicagoBandits.com. "I'm blessed to not only be a Bandit, but to have the honor of playing in front of the best fans in softball."
In her first season in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF), Hernandez played in 19 games to contribute to a Bandits' record of 13-6 and recorded a .205 batting average, along with a .282 slugging percentage and five RBI. She compiled eight hits on the season, including her first home run in the professional circuit in her second game.
Hernandez graduated from UIC in 2014 following a standout senior season for the Flames. She was named to the All-Horizon League First Team and NFCA All-Great Lakes Region Third Team after posting a .413 average on the season. She additionally led UIC in runs (39), hits (64), home runs (12), RBI (40) and stolen bases (13) while boasting a .723 slugging percentage.
Hernandez is currently serving as a Graduate Assistant for the Robert Morris softball team and is also working towards her MBA.
