Three Sign NLIs with UIC Volleyball Program

Sixth-year UIC head volleyball coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley has that announced Ali Witt (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge), Macy Geyer (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah Community) and Gaia Gbola (Ravenna, Italy) have signed National Letters of Intent with the Flames. Witt, Geyer and Gbola will join the Flames for the 2015 season.

Height - 6'0
Position - Middle Blocker
Hometown - Crystal Lake, Ill.
High School - Prairie Ridge
Club - Club Fusion

Witt was a two-year varsity starter for Prairie Ridge. As a sophomore, Witt was named the Most Improved Player on a squad that advanced to the Class 4A Elite Eight. A year later, Witt was named to the 2013 All-Fox Valley Conference team.

During club play, Witt played for Club Fusion based out of Marengo, Ill. and her squad qualified for the 2014 AAU Junior National Championships. Prior to her senior season, Witt earned a spot on the 2014 Under Armour Watch List in addition to the Chicago Sun-Times' Preseason Top 50.

Macy Geyer
Height - 5'11
Position - Setter
Hometown - Rockton, Ill.
High School - Hononegah Community
Club - Club Fusion

Geyer was a four-year varsity starter for Hononegah Community. She was named First Team All-Northern Illinois Conference (NIC-10) three times. As a senior, Geyer guided Hononegah to an outright NIC-10 title and an appearance in the Class 3A sectional semifinals.

Geyer led the NIC-10 in assists in 2014 and will represent the conference in the 2014 All-Star Volleyball Showcase presented by Rockford Public Schools. The showcase features the best players in the northern Illinois area.

During club play, Geyer played for Club Fusion based out of Marengo, Ill. and her squad qualified for the 2014 AAU Junior National Championships. During the summer of 2013, she competed in the 18U West Coast AAU Junior Olympic Club Beach Volleyball Championships.

Gaia Gbola
Height - 5'11
Position - Outside Hitter
Hometown - Ravenna, Italy
High School - ITIS Nullo Baldini

Gbola comes to UIC from Italy, where she competed in the Italian Volleyball Federation. She was named "Best Player" at a regional tournament and was selected the "Best Hitter" at the national finals. Gbola helped her U18 team to a regional championship before the squad placed eighth out of 25 teams at the national finals.
