CHICAGO - The UIC baseball team (14-17, 9-8 HL) was held to six hits Friday night in a 4-1 loss to Wright State (20-16, 14-2 HL) at Curtis Granderson Stadium. UIC drew five walks but left ten runners on base.
Ian Lewandowski (2-4) was solid on the mound for the Flames as he lasted 7 1/3 innings and limited the Raiders to three runs. He struck out three batters and scattered ten hits.
Mitchell Schulewitz relieved Lewandowski in the eighth inning and allowed one run on two hits. Jon Ryan and Alex Posey both retired two batters out of the bullpen.
Conor Philbin went 2-of-4 at the plate and drove in the Flames' lone run. Jacob McNamara, Mickey McDonald, Alex Jurich and John Coen also collected hits.
In the top of the third inning, Jeff Limbaugh led off with a triple and scored on Michael Timm's single. Wright State opened the sixth inning with three consecutive singles before Kieston Greene scored on a fielder's choice.
UIC had a runner reach base with one out in the sixth inning following a Wright State error and Tyler Detmer walked with two outs. Philbin brought home Jurich with a single to center field to narrow the Raider lead to 2-1.
Wright State tacked on two insurance runs with two outs in the eighth inning on two consecutive singles. McNamara walked with two outs in the ninth inning but McDonald grounded out to shortstop to end the game.
Saturday's series finale, scheduled for 12:05 p.m., is "Kid's Day" at the park, with children under 13 admitted free of charge. A pre-game festival, including games, concessions and the opportunity to meet UIC Flames baseball players, will occur starting at 10 a.m.
