Box Score

CHICAGO - The UIC baseball team (22-19, 15-9 HL) received a stellar outing from Jack Andersen and defeated third-place Milwaukee, 5-3, Sunday afternoon at Curtis Granderson Stadium. UIC swept the Panthers (16-21, 8-10 HL) for its third Horizon League series sweep of the season. The Flames have won eight straight games and sit in second place in the conference standings.

Andersen (2-3) got the start for the Flames and shut down the Panthers by allowing just one run on eight hits over seven innings. Seven of Milwaukee's hits off Andersen were singles. He walked two and struck out one batter.

Andersen stranded two runners in the second inning and left the bases loaded in the sixth. He produced three double plays, including two to escape from the first and fourth innings.

Mitchell Schulewitz relieved Andersen and allowed two runs (one earned) over 1 2/3 innings of work out of the bullpen. With a runner on first and two outs in the ninth inning, Alex Posey induced a groundout to pick up his third save of the season.

Alex Jurich had two hits and drove in two more runs to increase his team-leading RBI total to 44. Zenon Kolakowski also collected two RBIs as he drove in a pair for the second straight contest. Tyler Detmer, Mickey McDonald and Alex Lee also recorded two hits while Detmer drove in his 34th run of the season.

UIC had two singles over the first three innings and finally broke through with a run in the fourth. Lee singled with one out and advanced to second on an error in center field. Jeff Boehm lined out but Jurich plated Lee with a two-out single.

The Flames busted the game wide open in the sixth inning with four runs on six singles. McDonald led off with a single and advanced to third on Lee's single through the right side. Jurich drove in McDonald with a single through the left side before Detmer plated Lee with a single to left field. Conor Philbin's infield single loaded the bases and Kolakowski plated two with a single up the middle.

UIC concludes a four-game homestand Wednesday when the Flames play host to Big Ten program Northwestern. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at Curtis Granderson Stadium.
